Our Clinics do not have 24-hour emergency coverage. In the event that you are in need of urgent care, please use one of the resources listed below.
The Daily Tar Heel has compiled a list of mental health services available to UNC students and the broader community. Also available is a PDF of resources local to Chapel Hill. If you are seriously considering dangerous behavior, such as ending your life or self-harm, please call 911 immediately. You can also call the national suicide hotline at 988, available 24/7, or the suicide text line by texting HOME to 741741.
Helping Give Away Psychological Science, HGAPS, is a nonprofit corporation, spun off from a UNC student service club, that aims to gather and provide web based access to information and resources related to mental health topics such as COVID-19 info and coping resources, managing social isolation, and offers some suggestions for clients for teletherapy.
For UNC Students
If you are a UNC student you can go to the UNC Counseling and Psychological Services, CAPS, Monday-Friday, from 8am-5pm. Their phone number is 919-966-3658. After hours call the same number to speak to ProtoCall service. For medical services for UNC students, HealthLink can be accessed 24/7 at 919-966-2218.
For Non UNC Students
If you are not a UNC student, and an additional option for UNC students, you can go to the emergency room of the hospital nearest to you or call UNC Hospitals and ask to speak to the psychiatrist that is on call at 919-966-5217. Select option #1 and ask to speak to psychiatrist or crisis worker on call. Evenings and weekends call the Hospital Operator at 919-966-4131 and ask to speak to the psychiatrist or crisis worker on call. Additionally, for anyone, the local 24-hour crisis line, which is an anonymous phone counseling service staffed by trained volunteers, can be reached by calling the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255.
